Vityaz DT-30P (1985)
It was build by the Machine building Company Vityaz in Bashkortostan.
The original DT-30P is no longer in production
and has never been exported outside the former Soviet republic.
Engine: V-12 multi fuel 710 hp
Gearbox: first a torque converter and then a hydro mechanical transmission
Steering: hydraulic
Suspension: torsion
Heater: engine and cabin = ?
Weight: 21500 kg load: 30000 kg
Length: 15590 width:3100 eight 3300 mm
Track width: 1100 mm
Speed land: 37 km/h speed water: 4 km/h
Range: 500 km
Crew: 5 max
It has an unique track and suspension system with wide band tracks, road wheels with rubber pads.
Between the units there are 2 horizontal and 2 vertical hydraulic
cylinders which allow the two vehicles to move vertically and
horizontally in relation to each other.
Trailer(s) are powered by a drive shaft that runs in the middle of those cylinders.
This makes the articulated vehicles with a maximum weight of up to 60
tons more capable in terms of their swamp-, moving sand- loose soil-
and snow-going capacity, than any type of single-unit swamp- and
snow-going vehicle.
It can still drive off-road with one unit disabled or without one, or
even without both tracks on one of the units. It can cross ditches up
to almost the length of one of the vehicles.
DT-10PM and DT-30PM, are in use by those looking for or drilling for oil in the far north of the Earth.
Phillip Willis has emailed (Feb 2009)
that I forgot to added this big Amphib.
And he was right. ;-)

Volvo L-3314 Amphibi.
This was a amphibious vehicle.
It was tested on the G\F6ta river.
The vehicle was a prototype Valp. Valp is Swedish for "Puppy"
Different propeller arrangements was tried until the found something
called a "Water Jet" in England.
The rear wheel arches are covered in order to
increase performance when using the wheels only to
force the vehicle forwards in the water.
Actually the vehicle could make 2-3 knots in calm waters
only by using the wheels.
With the "jet device" the vehicle archived 4-5 knots.
Picture used by permission of Rickard Bergius.

Volvo C304 Amphibi
An other Volvo in the water!
In the late sixties Volvo tested the amphibious capabilities of the
"Laplander". With that experience Volvo made a serious attempt to
create an amphibious version of the C300-series. Project "4142" was
started in 1972 with 5 prototypes. They were 6x6 and had a watertight
transmission and bodywork. Air intake and exhaust outlet were placed on
the roof directly above the engine and in/out air went through a shaft
in the middle of the vehicle.

VW Water beetle
Made in Britain, it has a propeller driven by the fan belt pulley (no
reverse). The bottom of the Beetle is made "waterproof" and the lower
parts of the doors have metal plates on the inside. Look at the water
that the bilge pumps pump out. :)
The under side of the engine is in the water, the top of the engine is
kept dry by a metal casing. The engine hood (bonnet) is removed to cool
the top side of the engine. (There is no air cooling in the water. :)

VW Water beetle more and more
In 1985, the former Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan made an
unsuccessful attempt to cross the English Channel in a Volkswagen for
his programme Duncan Dares.
Some say that this is the original Sea Bug of Paul Greene but I have my doubts.
The problem was really the tv station that insisted that he had to
depart on a certain day. The weather was very rough the TV guys carried
the cost of the support boat e.t.c e.t.c.
On a 1996 fair in Scotland a differed beetle was one of the star attractions
"The unique (LCV) \B4Lothians Volkswagen Club\B4 Water Beetle" which
crossed from the mainland to Skye and back toll-free without using the
bridge.
Scale model = RIOSL051 VW Beetle Amphibian, 1964 1:43
Alan Meldrum of the LVC wrote;
I found your website with its reference to Lothians Volkswagen Club Water Beetle.
The VW was created in 1990 to celebrate 100 years of the Forth Rail
Bridge. It was our gesture of one great engineering achievement
reflecting another. The car has been out many times, the Skye Bridge
protest crossing was great fun, a new bridge had been built and the
toll was 8 Euro for a 70 meter trip, people were very unhappy, we used
the Water Beetle to make a point.
Next info is from:
forums.aussieveedubbers.com
The first Water beetle ever was at Perth in 1961/1962 at the opening of the Narrows Bridge and Free-way.
Two car dealers Peter Webster and Stuart Campbell drove off the river edge and under the new bridge. It caused a sensation.
And there was:
Malcolm Buchanan who crosses the Irish Sea from the Isle of Mann in his roadworthy Beetle. Bottom photo.
