Commander S2 4x4
Tim Dutton is now producing a Dutton Commander 4x4
based on the Suzuki Samurai and more recent on the Suzuki Jimny 1300 petrol and 1500 diesel models.
Many specifications are similar to the Ford based Commander
like the water jet for water propulsion but the jet is driven by a PTO.

It has a roll-over bar behind the driver's head, the 4x4 is 1 foot longer
and 3 inch higher and the windscreen is more vertical than the Ford version,
al that gives much more inside space.
The roll bar not only acts as a support for the soft top
but allows for a separate solid front hatch and separate main hard top
and it also incorporates the air intake,
this design allows the bonnet to be almost sealed
so even if water breaks over the windscreen the engine bay stays
completely dry.

The 4x4 is a little bit quicker in the water than the 2x2 because the bottom of the hull
has less lumps an bumps.
Production of all the models takes 3 months and goes in batches,
so the waiting list can be anything between 3 and 6 months

Marinar 4x4
The (Marinar?) looks the same as the Commander 4x4 the only difference is that
it is not build from new Suzuki parts but from parts from a second hand Samurai.
Tim has informed me that the KIT CAR (Mariner?) is ONLY
SJ 413 and Samurai based.

On a relative hard entry the water comes over the hood/bonnet but it will
not enter the engine compartment.

Not the way to do things, it seems that it can take this type of blow. |
